On shores of Cabo Verde, plastic waste is the newest of the archipelago's historical challenges. At the mercy ofAtlantic currents, the islands served as a graveyard of sorts in three distinct moments: the past, with the slave trade that marked its early days; the contemporary time, with the bodies of migrants attempting to reach the islands, but not always arriving; and the spread of plastic waste which weighs heavily in our future. Cabo Verde carries within itself the unresolved pain of colonialism, with many enslaved Africans buried deep in the ocean. Renown marine biologist Ana Veiga and historian António Correia e Silva explore its identity and ask crucial questions about the nation’s past, present, and future in a documentary that urges reflection on our history and on the future.
