Angelo Lopes is a director and multimedia artist whose work delves into social, cultural, and architectural narratives through immersive storytelling. With a postgraduate degree in Cinema and Audiovisual from M_EIA and a Master’s in Architecture, he blends cinematic and architectural insights in his projects, challenging conventional boundaries in film and installation art. In 2018, he directed the award-winning documentary CASALATA, honored as Best Short Documentary at the Cabo Verde International Film Festival and shown at international festivals such as the Slum Film Festival in Kenya and Portugal’s Arquiteturas Film Festival. Another acclaimed work, CANHÃO DE BOCA, won Best Documentary at the Festival Oiá, enhancing Lopes' standing in impactful storytelling. His audiovisual sculpture CAMARAD(AS), co-created with Rita Rainho, was part of the Silêncio da Terra exhibition at Portugal’s Museu Nogueira da Silva, showcasing his ability to merge film with spatial art. In 2022, he co-directed História CNA, a documentary reflecting Cabo Verde’s artistic legacy, exhibited at the Centro Nacional de Arte, Artesanato e Design in Mindelo. Lopes' work encompasses installations, documentary films, and multimedia exhibitions. His collaborative and innovative projects are acclaimed in the Cabo Verdean and global art scenes, consistently redefining the narrative around African and diaspora identities through cinema.
