Janilda Bartolomeu is a Dutch-Cape Verdean film programmer, filmmaker and researcher based in Rotterdam. She holds a Master’s Degree in Comparative Arts & Media Studies. As part of Research & Development at Het Nieuwe Instituut she researched spectrality within a variety of (post)colonial contexts. She was also one of Eye Filmmuseum’s Programmers of the Future (2022-2023). Her fascinations include decolonial cinema, (post)colonial hauntings, collective memories and speculative genres. Since 2025 she is a curator with IFFR - International Film Festival Rotterdam.
Her ongoing research/multimedia/filmmaking portfolio is gathered under the running project The Creole Lens (www.thecreolelens.com/), and includes works internationally exhibited work such as EVOCATIONS AND LAMENTATIONS (2016), THE CRIOLE LENS: AGUA 'D CHOR, AGUA 'D MAR (2018), THE ELEVENTH ISLAND: ACTIVATING SILENT HSITORIES THROUGH VIDEO (2020), COLONIAL SPECTRES (2020-2022), and her brand new film ISLANDS TRACED, CITIES FORESEEN (2024).
