Flávia Gusmão

Flávia Gusmão (Lisbon, 1978), is a Portuguese-Cape Verdean actress and an emerging film director. A graduate of the Cascais Professional Theater School, she has had a distinguished acting career career, performing with prominent directors in Portugal and internationally, inamely starring in Karim Aïnouz's THE INVISIBLE LIFE (2019), Best Film at the Cannes Festival - Un Certain Regard. Her versatile performances span theater, film, and television. She has taught and has consitently directed community theatre. Between 2021 and 2023, she crreated, directed, and performed the series NA LUT@ (ON/OF STRUGGLE/GRIEF), a long-term project focused on death, identity, and social issues. This series included he feature debut, the RTP hybrid documentary film #4 MANGIFERA (2022), shot in Mindelo. She has also directed six KILHAS shorts in Cabo Verde. Her creative direction often emphasizes identity and social narratives, blending her Afro-diasporic roots with global storytelling, and she is is known for her ability to bridge personal and political narratives across mediums.
